Highly trained specialists work around the clock to monitor the quality of El Paso’s drinking water, checking for substances and characteristics that can affect its safety, taste and appearance. Each year, they collect 45,000 samples from water treatment plants and conduct 375,000 tests at El Paso Water’s accredited International Water Quality Lab.
This sampling and testing helps ensure drinking water goes beyond state and federal standards. El Paso Water is regulated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and must meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency safety thresholds for metals, microbiological components and other substances that may be found in tap water.
Confidence straight from the tap
For customers, quality tap water is about more than meeting standards. It is the confidence to fill a reusable bottle, cook dinner, make ice, brew coffee or serve a meal without giving it a second thought. And for anyone who wants to learn more, El Paso Water makes water quality information, annual reports and frequently asked questions available online.
Each year, El Paso Water publishes a Drinking Water Report, also known as a Consumer Confidence Report. Required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, it explains where drinking water comes from, what is in it and how the utility works to protect a high-quality supply for residents and businesses.
