El Paso Taxpayer Revolt – EPCC BOARD VOTES TO INCREASE PROPERTY TAX BY 6.4% ON AVERAGE-VALUED SINGLE-FAMILY RESIDENCE

Posted on August 30, 2026

El Paso Community College, established in 1969 “to ensure affordable, high quality education and career pathways from start to finish,” has morphed into a multi-campus behemoth with a budget of $172.7 million and an enrollment of 25,600.

On August 26, the seven-member Board of Trustees voted to increase the tax bills on the average-valued single-family residence by $15.89, to $264.40 per year.

That is an increase of 6.4%.

Here are the tax increases for FY 2027 on a home worth about $235K (school districts not included):

City of El Paso $105

El Paso County $41

UMC $10

EPCC $16

That is a total tax increase of $172 per year, not including the school districts.

We have questioned the EPCC system of offering UTEP lower-division courses at a discount (on the backs of local taxpayers). At UTEP, those courses are funded by the state of Texas and student tuition.

Enjoy your day.
