About 700 participants turned out Saturday for the second annual El Paso Matters 9.15K in Downtown, which this year featured a 1-mile fun walk and a new route that started and ended at Cleveland Square Park.
The event, a key fundraiser for the local nonprofit newsroom now in its sixth year, serves as a tribute to the region’s 915 identity and blended fitness, culture and local pride. The post event featured vendors, activities and live music by DJ Jason Craig, as well as a special performance by the Painted Velvets youth band. Participants received a t-shirt, finisher medal and commemorative prints all featuring original work by El Paso artist Patrick Gabaldon.

“In our second year, we’ve really focused on growing the 9.15K into something that feels like a celebration of El Paso,” said Alyshea Johnson, development and events director at El Paso Matters. “The run brings people together, but we also wanted to create a morning where the whole community can come out, enjoy local music and businesses, connect with one another and celebrate everything that makes the 915 special. It’s been exciting to see the event grow and to see so many people want to be part of it.”
