Posted on January 3, 2024

This is your weekly update, which takes a quick look at the week ahead and some developments that El Paso Matters is following.

Carl Robinson’s Funeral Services: Funeral services for former city representative and county commissioner Carl Robinson, 77, who died on Dec. 22, will be Thursday. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Destiny Family Christian Center, 9615 Dyer Street. Burial will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5600 Fred Wilson Drive, with full military honors. Robinson served in the U.S. Army, and represented Northeast El Paso on the City Council and the County Commissioners Court. He served on various boards and was a high school basketball referee for more than 20 years.

Asking for a Mail-In Ballot: Anyone who wants to vote by mail in the March 5 primaries has until Feb. 23 to request a ballot from the El Paso County Elections Department. The first day to ask for a mail-in ballot was Monday. To vote by mail, you must be 65 years or older; sick or disabled; expect to be out of the county on Election Day and during the early voting period; or you expect to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day; or be in jail. The last day to register to vote to be eligible to vote in the primaries is Feb. 5.

Christmas Tree Recycling: The city’s Environmental Services Department Citizen Collection Stations are now accepting live holiday trees for recycling. The free service will be available through Feb. 17. The drop-off trash collection sites are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. They are located at 1034 Pendale Road; 121 Atlantic Road; 4501 Hondo Pass Drive; 2492 Harrison Ave; and 3510 Confederate Drive. All trees must be free of all decorations. Customers visiting the drop-off sites to dispose of materials other than recyclables must bring a recent water bill and matching indentation card to dispose of the waste.
