EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Third Judicial District Attorney Gerald Byers is holding a news conference at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 in Las Cruces at the Dona Ana County Government Center, 845 N. Motel Blvd. to provide an update on an officer-involved shooting back in October.
Teresa Gomez, age 45, was killed in an officer-involved shooting on Burley Court.
The Las Cruces Police Department has not identified the officer involved by name. They did say he has eight years on the force and has been put on administrative leave.
The shooting has been investigated by the Officer-Involved Incident Task Force, which includes the New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office and the New Mexico State University Police.
Las Cruces Police earlier released body camera footage of the incident which happened on Oct. 3. Gomez’s family has been calling for better training in the Las Cruces Police Department.
