EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Singer, songwriter, composer, and producer Abeni Merriweather joined us on our morning show on Wednesday, 24, and talked about the UTEP choir as they are set to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City later this year.
Merriweather says the UTEP choir has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall on Sunday, March 17 and the choir is currently fundraising for the trip.
“We need to raise about $20,000 to be able to pay for all of our flights. This is almost 100 person choir so its quite costly,” Merriweather said.
Merriweather says they need to raise the funds within the next month, and will be holding two fundraisers. Those two are the following:
“Pick a Project”, which is ran by UTEP, and will be ending in two days. Here’s the link: UTEP Choirs Carnegie Hall Debut
“Vertical Raise”, which will last until mid February. Here’s the link: UTEP Choir Carnegie Hall Debut 2024 Fundraiser | Vertical Raise
Merriweather also shares what it means for the UTEP choir to perform at Carnegie Hall.
“I believe this is the first UTEP ensemble to perform at Carnegie Hall, so its a very great experience for all of us and to be able to say where the first is quite an honor,” Merriweather said.
Merriweather also shares that she went to Carnegie Hall last year with Americas High School choir.
