EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Socorro High School is hosting two fencing tournaments; one happened Saturday, Jan. 27 and the second one is happening Saturday, Feb. 10, according to Socorro Independent School District.

The Socorro Bulldogs are expected to compete against fencers from Montwood and Parkland high schools and Salle De Long Fencing School in El Paso, according to SISD.
Between 16 to 20 fencers competed in the epee event in the Jan. 27 tournament. The Feb. 10 tournament is expected to have between 24 to 28 fencers in the epee event.
SISD says both tournaments are open to male and female fencers with a D-rating or below. Epee is the sword that is used in the tournament.
Both tournaments consist of a pool round followed by a direct elimination round. Medals will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners of the elimination round, according to SISD.
Additionally, both tournaments will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with the schedule as it follows:
8:30 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. — Set-up, registration, and warm-up
9:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. — Pool rounds
10:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. — 15-minute break
10:45 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. — Direct elimination round
