Border Report – 200 Mexican Navy special forces sent to border state of Coahuila to combat crime involving migrants

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — Mexico has sent Navy special forces to the state of Coahuila to track down migrant smugglers and dismantle stash houses, according to several Mexican news outlets.

According to Vanguardia, about 200 of these members of the Navy will patrol and assist local and state authorities, as well as the National Guard and the army in the cities of Acuña, Jiménez and Piedras Negras.

Vanguardia said the special forces have deployed to rural areas and have orders to locate and arrest alleged human smugglers who operate along the banks of the Río Grande and run migrant stash houses.

Federico Fernández Montañez, Secretary of Public Security in the State, told El Diario De Chihuahua that they’ve had planning and operations meetings.

“It is a special force, a very important force, with operations, with intelligence,” he said.
