EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso County Commissioners Court voted Monday, Feb. 5 to approve purchasing and equipping 25 officers in the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office with body-worn cameras.
The County has applied for a $22,500 grant from the State of Texas through the Governor’s Public Safety Office. That grant money will be used to purchase the equipment.
The County will come up with a $7,500 match to complete the purchase. The matching funds are available out of County’s General Fund budget, according to the meeting agenda.
“This technology will provide the officers with an enhanced strategy to accomplish the law enforcement objective to document with victims, witnesses and others during police-public encounters, at crime and incident scenes, and during traffic stops for the ultimate goal of striving to obtain the highest degree of ethical behavior and professional conduct at all times,” according to the agenda for Monday’s meeting.
