Posted on February 6, 2024

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Yolanda Saldivar is breaking her silence nearly 30 years after killing Selena Quintanilla in a new true crime documentary series.

“Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them” will be told from Saldivar’s perspective as she unfolds the events leading up to Quintanilla’s death.

Regional Mexican music is crossing borders and going global. Here’s how it happened

Quintanilla was shot and killed at the height of her career on March 31, 1995 by Saldivar who was also her fan club president.

“After so many years, I think it is time to set the story straight,” Saldivar states in the trailer of the new documentary.

The documentary will feature photos of the crime scene, evidence, documents and recordings related to the events of Selena’s death.

Since Quintanilla’s death, Yolanda has been serving a life sentence for Selena’s murder in Gatesville, Texas.

The true crime documentary series will show Saldivar speaking from the Patrick O’ Daniel prison.

“I think people deserve to know the truth,” Saldivar continues.

McAllen native nominated in 66th Annual Grammy Awards

The documentary comes nearly one year before Saldivar will become eligible for parole, on March 30, 2025.

“Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them” will be a two-part series.

The first part will televised on Oxygen True Crime, Saturday, Feb. 17. Part two will continue Sunday, Feb. 18.

Both parts will also be available to stream on Peacock.
