EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A Las Cruces man pleaded to second degree after cutting another man’s throat with a sword back in June, 2022 in Las Cruces.
According to the Dona Ana County District Attorney, on June 10, 2022, Las Cruces Police officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance at the 1100 block of Boutz. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the body of Efren Gutierrez.
Official reports indicate that neighbors saw Quintana behaving menacingly and erratically in the apartment complex’s parking lot and yelling: “I’m not playing with you guys.” He was seen leaving apartment #10, where Gutierrez lived, and saying that he did what needed to be done, that “he had to do it, he’s [Gutierrez] killing women and kids.”
After killing Gutierrez, Quintana left the scene on a BMX bicycle and without the sword, according to LCPD. Neighbors in other apartments rushed into Gutierrez’s apartment to find the victim with his throat slit and the room in disarray.
Quintana was given a pre-sentence confinement credit for 1,331 days and will serve ten years in the Department of Corrections.
