EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Independent School District has received at statewide honor for financial management.
The school district was given the Award of Excellence by the Texas Association of School Business Officials.
Established in 2020, the Award of Excellence in Financial Management “serves as a testament to El Paso ISD’s commitment to transparency and accountability. The criteria for this award are stringent, aligning with the financial accounting and reporting guidelines outlined in the Texas Education Agency Financial Accountability System Resource Guide,” according to a news release announcing the award.
“It’s an honor for El Paso ISD to be recognized with this prestigious award,” said Martha Aguirre, the district’s chief financial officer. “It is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaborative efforts of our entire business services team. This recognition not only reflects our commitment to financial integrity and innovation in the service of students, but also serves as a reminder of the impact we can make when we strive for excellence in all that we do.”
To qualify for this recognition, applicants must submit documentation on 11 key areas, “which are meticulously reviewed by a TASBO accounting subcommittee. El Paso ISD has exceeded expectations by showcasing their diligent monitoring of spending, their efforts to improve budgeting, their implementation of effective controls, and their commitment to enhancing financial reporting,” according to the news release.
“These organizations have gone above and beyond to demonstrate transparency by meticulously documenting their districts’ policies and procedures,” said Tracy Ginsburg, TASBO executive director. “Not only have they showcased the ways they monitor spending, improve budgeting, implement controls, and enhance financial reporting, but they have shared their best practices with colleagues throughout Texas, helping even more educational organizations to better utilize taxpayer dollars.”
