KTSM News – Star on the Mountain lights up in green for Engineers Week

Posted on February 22, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – El Paso Electric (EPE) will be offering a special tribute to engineers by lighting up the Star on the Mountain in green on Wednesday, Feb. 21, the El Paso Chamber (EPC) announced in a press release.

This gesture, which is set to take place during National Engineers Week, symbolizes EPE’s appreciation for the engineering community and its essential role in shaping our future through innovation and dedication, according to the press release.

“El Paso Electric is honored to sponsor lighting the Star on the Mountain green in honor of National Engineers Week. Since the star was first constructed by El Paso Electric in 1940 and lit with only 300 blue lamps, it has stood as a symbol of the innovation and pride that permeates our community. The engineers of EPE and throughout our region continue to bring that spirt of transformation and energy to all we do and hope to accomplish. We hope that seeing the green lights reminds us all to seize the moment and prioritize the pursuit of enhanced reliability, affordability and sustainability in our energy sector,” said President & CEO, Kelly Tomblin.

Additionally, by lighting the Star in green, EPC and EPE aim to highlight the importance of engineers and their contributions to society, according to the press release.

If you want to dedicate the Star to someone by changing its color visit elpaso.org/star-on-the-mountain for more information. EPC says proceeds from these lightings go toward funding the Star’s recent renovation.
