KTSM News – National cyberattack impacts pharmacies at William Beaumont Army Medical Center

Posted on February 22, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A cyberattack on Change Healthcare has affected several military clinics and hospitals worldwide including pharmacies at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, according to a press release from the Defense Health Agency.

“On Feb. 21, Change Healthcare disconnected their systems to protect patient information. This is impacting all military pharmacies worldwide and some retail pharmacies nationally,” the Defense Health Agency said.

William Beaumont Army Medical Center says their pharmacies will “use a workaround during this downtime, and may add more wait time to the process.”

The Medical Center also says they will not turn anyone away, but is aksing for patience as they wait for everything to “come back up.”

The Medical Center also adds that phone refills are currently at a standstill and cannot be processed.

“So if patients need them urgently, they will have to present themselves to one of our pharmacies in person and we will take care of them,” the Medical Center said.
