KTSM News – DOCS: Man charged in fatal crash also accused of assaulting woman over drugs

Posted on February 26, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso man is facing a charge of capital murder in the death of two people after they were run over last Friday, Feb. 23 in far East El Paso.

KTSM has obtained court documents that show what led up to the incident.

According to court documents, Adrian James Gonzales, 30, is facing a charge of capital murder, and other unrelated charges that reportedly happened within the same week.

Court documents state a day prior to the incident, a woman, who was not involved in the fatal crash, reported to police that Gonzales had attempted to sexually assault her and physically assaulted her at his home.

The woman also told police that Gonzales had “multiple knifes in his room and has been using drugs such as crystal meth,” according to court documents.

The woman also told police that Gonzales broke the driver-side window of her vehicle because he was upset at her for not taking him to “buy more drugs.”

On the day of the fatal incident, Friday, Feb. 23, just before 10 a.m., a witness was driving on Turf Road when she saw Gonzales traveling southbound at a high rate of speed in a gray SUV.

The witness told police that she returned to the area after 10 minutes and saw a man on the ground, face down just off the roadway. The witness told police that he was unresponsive and dialed 911.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Special Traffic investigations (STI) unit and Life Ambulance officals arrived at the scene. The man, who has been identified as Enrike Havier Navarro, 34, had facial and head injuries that were consistent with being struck by a vehicle, according to court documents.

Navarro was transported to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

While searching the area, a deputy found a woman, who has been identified as Noemi Crispin, 40, in a dirt area east of the roadway, approximately 20 feet south from where Navarro was found.

Court documents say Crispin was dead and had a broken leg. Tire impressions on both the roadway and the shoulder were also discovered and investigators determined both Navarro and Crispin were struck by a vehicle.

Court documents also say that tire impressions showed Gonzales was traveling northbound on Turf Road and veered off, striking Navarro.

After striking Navarro, Gonzales did a U-turn and began to travel southeast approximately 20 feet off the roadway, fatally striking Crispin, according to court documents.

Gonzales then entered back onto the roadway and continued southbound, according to court documents.

Deputies then followed the tire impressions left where Crispin was killed, which led them to a home located on the 4600 block of Turf Road, according to court documents.

Deputies observed debris and tire impressions leading towards the back of the home where a gray SUV was located. The SUV had extensive damage to the front end and windshield.

The owner of the property told deputies that her son, Gonzales, was driving the SUV right before they arrived.

An official with the STI unit inspected the SUV and determined that the damage was consistent with vehicle debris that was found near both Navarro and Crispin, according to court documents.

A vehicle description given by witnesses also matched the SUV, according to court documents.

As we have previously reported, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office says Gonzales was responsible for the fatal crash and was arrested by the Major Crimes Unit.

He was charged with capital murder with a $1 million bond, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

He is also facing a charge of criminal mischief and assault causing bodily injury/family violence for the incident the day before the crash.
