EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Operation Hope received a special recognition from a state representative for their “selfless acts benefiting the El Paso community” on Tuesday, Feb. 28, according to a news release sent out ahead of the event.
State Rep. Claudia Ordaz, D-El Paso, presented the award to Cesar Ornelas II of Cesar Ornelas Injury Law, Dr. Marco Gonzales and Angel Gomez, one of the founders of Operation Hope.
Each were recognized for their efforts to help the less fortunate in the Borderland by providing medical support, granting wishes and offering assistance to families in need.
Here are some of the ways they have helped the Borderland community: providing two medical helmets to infants in need; offering free surgical procedures to children facing facial disfigurement; and fulfilling the wish of a terminally ill 9-year-old by sending her to Disneyland during the Christmas holidays, and many other gestures, activities and events over the years.
“Every year, numerous children in El Paso suffer from facial injuries due to accidents or dog bites, leading to disfiguration and psychological challenges. Recognizing this need, Dr. Marco A. Gonzales, Attorney Cesar Ornelas II, and Angel Gomez of Operation Hope have united to provide free facial surgery and follow-up treatment to qualifying children and their families. Additionally, they have collaborated to offer Modeling Helmets, essential for proper skull formation, at no cost to parents,” according to the news release.
