KTSM News – PD: Woman fails to yield right of way, dies in East El Paso crash

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An El Paso woman has died after she failed to yield the right of way which led to a two-vehicle crash on Thursday, March 7 in East El Paso, El Paso Police said.

Police said just before 9:30 a.m., Silvia Resendiz Alonzo, 69, was traveling south on the 1900 block of Seagull in a Toyota Highlander and stopped at the intersection of Montwood Drive and Seagull Drive.

Police said Alonzo entered the intersection to make a left turn to Montwood and at the same time, Jesus Ivan Sotelo, 33, was traveling west on Montwood in a Nissan Titan.

Police said Alonzo did not yield to Sotelo and was T-boned by the truck.

Alonzo was then transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

Police said the contributing factors in this crash are Alonzo’s failure to yield the right of way and speeding on behalf of Sotelo.

Police said this is the 12th fatality this year compared to 12 this same time last year.
