EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The City of El Paso’s Animal Services Department, in collaboration with its resource rover team, is hosting a series of free microchip clinics as part of its “Straylight Savings” time initiative, the City said in a press release.
The City says “Straylight Savings” encourages pet owners to ensure their pets are microchipped and their microchip information is up-to-date, coinciding with El Paso City Animal Ordinances.
The free monthly microchipping events are open to everyone and there is no limit on the number of pets, according to the City.
The City says for eligibility, pets should be at least six weeks old, dogs must be on a leash, and cats must be securely placed in carriers.
The City has provided a list of dates of free microchipping events. Those are the following:
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 9 at Clardy Fox Library located on 5515 Robert Alva Ave.
12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on March 10 at Dogs on the Run Grooming located on 1852 Trawood Dr.
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 12 at Hilos de Plata Senior Center located on 4451 Delta Dr.
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 16 at Twin Peaks Sunland located on 955 Sunland Park Dr.
12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on March 16 at Mission Valley Adoption Center located on 9068 Socorro Rd.
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 22 at PetSmart at the Fountains located on 8889 Gateway Blvd. W
2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on March 23 at Gringo Theory Patio Bar located on 11410 Montana Ave.
9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 30 at Ascarate Park located on 6900 Delta Dr.
The City also provided some tips on how to update your pet’s microchip. Those are the following:
First: Check to see if your pet has a Microchip by veterinarian or consider using the chip scanning equipment at any El Paso Fire Department station.
Second: Identify the chip’s manufacturer by entering the number at PetMicrochipLookup.org
Third: Once you have the manufacturer you can register or update your contact information with the manufacturer.
For added security, consider adding your pet’s microchip data to the PetcoLoveLost.org database for free.
