Border Report – More National Guard troops arrive in Tijuana to fight crime

SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Mexico’s National Guard has sent 240 soldiers to Tijuana to help ongoing efforts to fight crime south of the border and support others who have been in the region since last year.

The primary goal, according to a statement from the military, is to “reduce crime and guarantee peace, freedom and liberty for the public.”

Mexico’s National Guard boosts border patrols in Tijuana as new barrier goes up by beach

According to Zeta, a weekly publication in Tijuana, 2,403 National Guard troops have been deployed just this year to patrol the Tijuana region.

A number of these soldiers have been assigned to the border barrier to keep migrants from crossing into the U.S. both in the city of Tijuana and in rural areas east of the city.
