EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Sunday, March 24 is being celebrated by the City of El Paso as World Tuberculosis Day (TB). Highlighting the importance and awareness of the infectious bacterial disease.
Tuberculosis is a bacteria that commonly attacks the lungs, but they can also affect the kidneys, spine and brain, according to the City.
The City also explains some common symptoms of TB may include:
A cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer
pain in the chest area
coughing up blood or phlegm from deep inside the lungs
weakness or fatigue
weight loss
chills
fever
sweating at night
no appetite
The Department of Public Health is offering TB screenings based on a sliding fee scale and accepts insurance for those in need of a diagnosis.
