EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Raising funds one bike ride at a time.
The National Marrow Donor Program (now formally known as NMDP) is gearing up to start their six-ride tour across the U.S. to help raise funds for treatments for patients in need of a blood stem cell transplant.
According to NMDP, the first stop is in El Paso and then trekking across the state to Austin to get a glimpse of the solar eclipse. Riders then will get to tour through the wine country in Napa, California, bike up to Milwaukee and Chicago, coast through Boston and Pennsylvania and end the trail in Minneapolis.
In 2023, the NMDP foundation raised more than $200,000 and 33 cyclists rode 1,990 miles, NMDP said in a press release.
“I am alive today because of the selfless act of a blood stem cell donor. I started biking when I first began my healing journey post-transplant and quickly realized I could use my passion to help others. This year, I will ride more than 3,000 miles all to raise funds and awareness towards the mission of NMDP,” said Bob Falkenberg, founder of the NMDP cycling program.
“We expect this year’s NMDP Cycle events to be bigger than ever and are excited to offer rides of varying levels so anyone can participate and join this powerful movement,” said Joy King, chief advancement officer.

The first day for the ride is scheduled to be in El Paso on Saturday, March 30.
