EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A McAllen woman was arrested in Edinburg after her 2 year old ate a THC gummy that was in her purse, documents revealed.

At 3:48 p.m., March 27, an Edinburg police officer was dispatched to the Edinburg Children’s Hospital on W. Trenton Road in reference to a child who digested a THC gummy, a probable cause affidavit stated.

Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is a mind-altering compound found in marijuana. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the developing brains of babies and children are “especially susceptible to the harmful effects” of THC.

The officer arrived and spoke with the mother of a 2-year-old child, identified as Garza. The officer reported that Garza said she was at work with her child when they ate a THC gummy that she had in her purse, the affidavit stated.

Investigators spoke with hospital staff who “confirmed that the child digested a THC gummy by having cannabis present in her blood results,” the document stated.

The investigator noted that the child showed signs of intoxication. Garza was then placed under arrest for injury to a child.
