EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An Odessa man has pleaded guilty to three counts of cyberstalking and some of his victims were from El Paso, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for West Texas.
Hugo Iram Cardona Jr., 21, pleaded guilty to three counts of cyberstalking in a federal court in El Paso, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) are asking the community for help to find more victims. They say Cardona was targeting young females nationwide.
The FBI and HSI said Cardona had at least 15 victims, coming from El Paso, Colorado and Arizona, according to court documents.
According to court documents, Cardona used a two-factor authentication scheme to steal the victims’ intimate photos and videos from Snapchat. Cardona would then contact the victims and demanded an apology from them through Snapchat, Instagram and/or TextNow. If they didn’t comply, Cardona would threaten to publicly release the content.
Cardona would also demand victims to video chat him while engaging in sexually explicit conducts, according to court documents.
Cardona’s offenses occurred from approximately Aug. 15, 2020 though approximately June 1, 2023.
Cardona is scheduled to be sentenced on June 3 and faces up to 10 years in prison for each count.
