EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Socorro ISD Board of Trustees appointed an interim superintendent during a special board meeting on Monday evening, April 8.
The board appointed James Vasquez as interim superintendent after Superintendent Dr. Nate Carman was placed on administrative leave regarding a possible conflict on interest last month.
As we have previously reported, SISD board members met in executive session on Monday night, March 25, and voted to place Carman on administrative leave after an audit was presented by a third party.
The board also accepted the appointment of a Texas Education Agency (TEA) conservator to work with the district in early March.
Back in February, the district announced that Carman was leaving at the end of the school year to become the superintendent for Higley Unified School District in Gilbert, Arizona. During that announcement, the district said Carman would be starting his new job in July.
