EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An Oklahoma mother was allegedly shot and killed by her husband and her family is now asking for the Borderland’s help to lay her to rest across the border.
Mariana Flores-Salazar was killed on March 27 after she was allegedly shot by her husband in an Office Depot parking lot in Oklahoma with two of her children in the backseat.
“She is a victim of domestic violence,” said Karla Medina, cousin of Flores-Salazar.
She said it’s painful and hard to comprehend that they lost someone they love by domestic violence.
Medina told KTSM Flores-Salazar leaves behind six children.
She described Flores-Salazar as a goofy, loving and caring person and she loved being a mother.
Medina spoke of Flores-Salazar saying she was a great soul and this situation has caused lots of pain.
“We were all in shock when we got the call that she was rushed to the hospital. But we weren’t aware what was going on between her and her husband,” Medina said.
Medina said through the tough process, all the family is trying to is raise money to lay Flores-Salazar to rest in Mexico in El Millon, Chihuahua, which is about an hour southeast of Juarez.
They want her to rest in peace, buried near the rest of her family, Medina said.
“Her mom is in Mexico and her mom didn’t get to say (her) goodbyes. Her mom didn’t get to see her through the fight that she gave,” she added.
Medina told KTSM that Flores-Salazar was a tissue and organ donor, saying even though she is no longer here, they describe her as a hero.
“So far, she saved three lives,” Medina said.
“It makes us feel great because we know that even though she didn’t get to live more, we know that someone else is. She gave life to someone else, and someone else out there has a little piece of her and we’re great to remember that,” Medina said.
Medina told KTSM not only are they asking for the Borderland’s help but they also want to bring awareness to domestic violence.
