EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Campestre Elementary School was placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon, April 10 after gunfire was reported near the school, a Socorro ISD spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said the school was placed on lockdown in reference to reports of gunfire in a Socorro neighborhood that’s near the school.
The spokesperson said the lockdown has since been lifted but is currently on a “secure” status for the rest of the day so that no one is allowed outside.
The Socorro Police Department says they received reports of shots fired and responded to the incident.
The Police Department says they could not locate any victims or suspects and the area is now clear.
Officers are currently assisting at schools as extra security in the area, according to the Police Department.
