KTSM News – El Paso Water, Army to host meeting on drainage in Central El Paso

Posted on April 12, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Water and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will host a public meeting next week that looks at ways of reducing mountain runoff in the Central Cebada watershed.

The meeting will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 at the Memorial Park Senior Center, 1800 Byron St. The meeting will include a presentation from USACE and an “open-house” format. The public can stop in at any point during the 90-minute meeting and learn more.

In 2021, EPWater and the USACE began a three-year feasibility study of El Paso’s Central Cebada watershed.

USACE “ran models on flooding dynamics in the central watershed and completed an audit of the central drainage system. The findings will be released, questions will be answered and the USACE will provide information on possible next steps to provide support for stormwater infrastructure within the area,” according to a news release sent out by the water utility.

EPWater will provide information on completed, current, and future stormwater projects aimed at reducing flooding in Central El Paso. Both EPWater and USACE staff will be available to answer questions.
