YES.

Opill, a daily birth control pill, became available online and at retail stores in all states nationwide in early March. It is the first oral contraceptive to be approved for use without a prescription.

The pill is available at Walgreens, CVS and Target stores in El Paso as well as online on Opill.com and Amazon, according to Opill’s website. Retail prices range from $19.99 for a one-month supply to $49.99 for a three-month supply.

While most health insurers are required to provide prescription birth control free-of-cost, coverage of over-the-counter contraception varies by state.

Clinics under Title X, a federal program that helps provide confidential family planning services, are required to obtain parental consent before offering contraceptives to people under 18.

According to 2022 Census data, 18.4% of Texans are uninsured, making it the state with the largest population of uninsured people.

This fact brief is responsive to conversations such as this one.
