KTSM News – Registration is open for Las Cruces Youth Leadership Summer Camp

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) is inviting the community to register for their Youth Leadership Summer Camp.

According to the news release by LCPD, the camp is free and sponsored by New Mexico State University’s (NMSU) College of Arts and Sciences.

Children ages 11 to 14, or entering into 6 grade, are eligible for the camp.

Registration for the camp begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 at Lynn Middle School, at 950 South Walnut St. Registration will continue to 4 p.m. or until both sessions are full, according to LCPD.

The camp includes 2 one-week sessions, and each session is limited to 20 students, according to LCPD. Students may not participate in both sessions.

Session One will be from Monday, June 3 to Friday, June 7 and Session Two will be from Monday, June 10 to Friday, June 14. Both sessions will run from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with breakfast and lunch provided.

According to LCPD, the camp aims to build confidence and self-esteem with the students, all while emphasizing the importance of teamwork.

Sessions will be led by LCPD officers and professional staff from the Las Cruces Fire Department and the New Mexico National Guard. Students will also be taking a field trip to NMSU’s campus.
