EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Children’s Grief Center of El Paso (CGC) will host its annual Memorial 5K Run/1 Mile Walk event at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 19 at Ascarate Park.
The event, which is themed “Hope and Hula,” seeks to raise funds for and promote awareness of the CGC.
“Since 1995, CGC has been the region’s only childhood bereavement center serving youth who have experienced the death of a loved ones. Funds raised at this community event directly support grief support groups and other vital services,” read a press release sent by CGC.
CGC says registration is open for individuals as well as teams, with special discounts available for groups of 10 or more and youth under age 18.
Early registration closed Monday, April 29, but late registration is available online and including the morning of the race at 7-7:45am.

CGC says the first 200 registrants will receive a race t-shirt and a goodie bag.
Medals are provided for top age-group finishers and trophies for overall top male and female.
Given CGC’s mission, participants have the option to register and participate in memory of a loved one who has died. CGC says these participants are invited to wear a memorial name card on their shirt while running or walking. Those memorialized will be honored on the center’s event webpage.
Additionally, the event will also include a “Family Fun Festival” featuring booths, food trucks and hula-hoop themed games.
“We are very excited to invite the community to join us in uplifting the needs around childhood bereavement in our community. This is a meaningful and fun opportunity to make an impact in the life of a bereaved child. Your presence and your donation sends the important message that no one should grieve alone, and that CGC is here to provide comfort, care, and support,” said Executive Director Kathy Revtyak of the upcoming event.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available, according to CGC. For details or to become a sponsor, contact Revtyak at (915) 532-6004 or visit here.
