EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Senator Cesar J. Blanco delivered 100 box fans to disadvantaged senior citizens on Monday, May 20 as high temperatures continue to rise in El Paso.

A press release on the giveaway says the initiative aimed to “assist economically disadvantaged senior citizens keep their homes cool and help reduce electric bills. ”
The press release also says that more than 80 percent of the estimated 12,000 people who died due to heat-related causes in the U.S. were aged 60 or above, according to Harvard Medical School.
“El Paso’s high temperatures pose serious health risks to some of our community’s most vulnerable population, especially those seniors who are already grappling with underlying health conditions,” said Senator César J. Blanco. “By providing box fans, we hope to facilitate a safer and more comfortable living environment for those in our community who need it most.”
