El Paso Matters – El Paso pools, water parks open for summer

Whether you want to slither down a lazy river, glide down a water slide or freestyle in a swimming pool, El Paso offers an array of water fun for the summer. Here’s a list of pools, water parks and spray parks to check out this season.

The city’s three outdoor pools are open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend – May 25 to Sept. 1 – this year. The pools are Grandview, 3100 Jefferson Ave.; Nations Tobin, 8831 Railroad Drive; and Pavo Real, 110 Presa Place. Hours vary.

The city’s 10 indoor pools have special hours from May 13 to June 7, and will change for summer hours after June. Check website for details.

The city’s nine spray parks will open for summer starting Saturday, May 25, through Sept. 8. Spray park hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Follow the city’s Parks and Recreation Page on Facebook and Instagram for details. The splash pads at the El Paso Zoo and San Jacinto Plaza also will open this weekend.

The four El Paso Water Parks – Camp Cohen in Northeast, Chapoteo in the Lower Valley, Lost Kingdom in East Central and Oasis in Far East – are set to open daily for summer beginning June 1. Some of the parks will be open for Memorial Day weekend. The water parks are open weekends only from July 29 to Sept. 2. Check website for details.

The county’s three pools – Ascarate Park, Canutillo and Fabens – are set to open for summer with a Stars, Stripes and Splashes event Memorial Day weekend Friday, May 25, to Monday, May 27. Summer hours continue through Labor Day. Check website for details.

The Elmont Resort Swim Club at Montecillo, 240 W. Castellano Drive, is open to the public and celebrated opening weekend in April.

YMCA of El Paso offers adult and youth swim lessons, open swimming and fitness courses at the Bowling Family branch in Northeast, the Loya Family branch on the East Side and the Westside Family branch.

YWCA El Paso del Norte Region offers swim lessons, open swim times and fitness courses at various branches, including Joyce Whitfield Jaynes in Central, Katharine White Harvey, Dorothy Woodley Hunt and Shirley Leavell Branch on the East Side.

Wet ’N’ Wild Waterworld: The privately owned park, 8804 S. Desert Blvd. (Anthony Exit 0), opens daily starting Friday, May 24, through Sunday, Aug. 4. The park is open weekends through Sept. 1 and Labor Day, Sept. 2.
