EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A juvenile suspect has been arrested in a suspected road rage shooting that happened outside of Gadsden High School on Friday, May 24, Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office officials said in an update issued Tuesday.
“Witnesses were able to identify the alleged suspect by name and that led to his arrest in Anthony, New Mexico later the same day,” Sheriff’s officials said.
Dona Ana County Sheriff’s officials had told KTSM that a suspect had been detained Friday afternoon for questioning but didn’t say if the person was considered a suspect or would be charged.
The victim has been identified as 66-year-old Jaime Bonilla of Chamberino, New Mexico.
While the investigation continues, it is believed this incident arose from a road rage situation, Sheriff’s officials said.
The juvenile is being detained on charges of evidence tampering and first-degree murder, the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office said.
No students were on campus when the shooting happened because the school year ended the day before.
