KTSM News – UPDATE: 76-year-old cyclist dies in Lower Valley crash

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 76-year-old man has died in a crash involving a bicyclist and a vehicle that happened on Tuesday, May 14 in El Paso’s Lower Valley, according to the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).

Special Traffic Investigations’ (STI) preliminary information said that Manuel Salvador Palacios-Garcia, 22, was exiting a parking lot located at 7272 Alameda Ave.

As he was pulling out from the parking lot to make a right on Alameda, Jose Luis Lopez-Nunez, 76, who was traveling west on the eastbound lanes, struck Palacios-Garcia’s vehicle.

EPPD said that Lopez-Nunez suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

STI were notified on Friday, May 24 that Lopez-Nunez died due to his injuries, according to EPPD.

Additionally, Palacios-Garcia was not injured during the collision, according to EPPD.

This is the 28th traffic fatality in 2024 compared to 30 the same time in 2023.
