EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Longtime educator and business owner Michelle Perry of Alamogordo, New Mexico, will get the experience of a lifetime this weekend.

Perry has been selected to take a “Hometown Hero” flight with the U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron “Thunderbirds.”

The Thunderbirds are the headliner for the Holloman Air Force Base Legacy of Liberty Airshow on Sunday, June 2.  The Hometown Hero flight will take place during the airshow rehearsal on Saturday, June 1.

Perry will be flying for approximately one hour in Thunderbird 8 with “a bird’s eye view” while the full Thunderbirds team practices their performance on Saturday, according to a news release sent out by Holloman Air Force Base.

The Thunderbirds Hometown Hero Flight program is designed to showcase individuals doing “amazing things in their communities,” according to the news release.

“Dr. Perry has devoted herself to the betterment of our community by either coaching business owners, educating both young and old, and volunteering for many organizations in the local area,” the news release said.

“Having earned a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Perry has been very involved in the education system as the director of educational services for the Alamogordo Public School System, high school assistant principal, and college instructor,” the release said.

Saturday’s rehearsal is open to DoD cardholders and the practice will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entry is through the main gate. Food trucks will be on-site. Cash is needed. There will also be static displays of aircraft.

On Sunday, gates open at 9 a.m. The airshow will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The grounds will close at 5 p.m. The show is open to the public and you do not need a base pass. The public will enter through the Main Gate. DoD cardholders will enter through the West (Commercial) Gate. Disabled parking will be available.

Spectators are asked to bring water in a non-glass water bottle, a hat, sunscreen and ear protection. Holloman officials also say that any kind of drugs, including marijuana in any form are not allowed. No weapons are allowed, including pocket knives.
