EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Two Southern New Mexico highway rest areas on Interstate 10 are getting about $1 million in improvements and will be closed starting Monday, June 3, during the projects, the New Mexico Department of Transportation said.

The Scenic View Rest Area in Las Cruces will get about $7,000 in upgrades to its water system. It is expected to be closed for about a week.
The Welcome Center and Rest Area in Lordsburg will get about $995,000 in upgrades to its main building, landscaping and restrooms. It will be closed for about three months.
“Improving roadside rest areas provides a safe space for drivers to take breaks, reducing the likelihood of accidents caused by fatigue. Upgraded facilities offer travelers a more pleasant experience during their journeys, enhancing overall comfort and satisfaction,” according to a news release sent out by NMDOT.
