Mendez will be filling the remaining term for previous District 4 Trustee Christina Sanchez who resigned due to taking on her new role as the elected county attorney, according to a news release sent by EPCC.

The District 4 Trustee position will be up for election in May of 2025, according to EPCC.

“We are pleased to welcome Jesus Mendez to the EPCC Board of Trustees,” said Brian Haggerty, Board Chair. “Mr. Mendez’ experience as a business owner who is committed to our community will ensure EPCC continues our momentum as we advance our mission of ensuring affordable, high-quality education and career pathways with a laser-focus on student success.”

“The selection process for the new board member was open to all eligible residents in District 4 and involved a comprehensive review of candidates’ qualifications, including their professional backgrounds, leadership experience, and commitment to the mission, vision and goals of EPCC,” read the news release.

EPCC said the Board of Trustees play a crucial role in shaping the region and college’s future providing “oversight and strategic direction” to ensure EPCC remains at the forefront of higher education and workforce development.

“I am honored to join the EPCC Board of Trustees and look forward to working collaboratively with Dr. Serrata and the trustees to advance EPCC’s mission and uphold its commitment to student success,” said Mendez.
