EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Las Cruces Fire Department (LCFD) will graduate 20 cadets from its 37th Fire Academy at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 28 at the auditorium at the Doña Ana Community College East Mesa Campus.

The Fire Academy provides 640 hours of field training and classroom instruction over a span of 16 weeks, according to a press release sent by the LCFD.
LCFD said during the academy, cadets received training in firefighting techniques, hazardous materials, vehicle extrication, technical rescue and fire inspection.
“Beginning June 30, four new graduates who already have their EMT-Basic License will be assigned to one of eight fire stations for emergency response,” read the news release. “The remaining cadets will complete another eight weeks of EMT-Basic training before they are licensed.”
