KTSM News – Very Hot July 4; Strong T-Showers Ahead — Your 9-Day Forecast

Posted on July 3, 2024

I hope you enjoyed the rain last night as much as I did. Officially at the airport, our total rainfall for the year has risen to 1.76 inches. Normal so far this year would be 2.48 inches, but we’re catching up! We can thank the morning clouds for slowing down our rate of heating today. The official high is 95; the record is 109 set in 1960.

TONIGHT:  The skies will be partly cloudy.  Because of a few key hours of afternoon heating, expect isolated area showers and t-showers well into the evening hours, though the chance of extended rainfall like last night will not be likely.  Some individual storms may produce some brief, heavy rainfall, and the low will drop to 75 with overnight clearing.  The NW-W winds will range from 5-10 mph excluding possible gusts near storms.

FORECAST:   Thursday, the Fourth of July, will be partly cloudy and a lot hotter with a high of 103.  Look for partly cloudy skies most of the day with isolated late day t-storms and t-showers.  Brief rainfall out of individual storms will be possible.  The variable winds will range from 5-10 mph.  Friday will be partly cloudy with a high of 100.  Expect widely scattered and potentially strong t-showers on Friday.  We face a heavy rain threat on Friday evening.  Saturday will be partly cloudy and 98 with isolated late day t-storms.  Sunday will be mostly sunny, hot, and dry with a high of 104.  Monday will be partly cloudy and 103 with the potential for strong t-showers late Monday.  Tuesday will be partly cloudy and 99.
