EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Some Ruidoso residents are being ordered to evacuate immediately because of the possibility of flash flooding, the Village of Ruidoso said on its Facebook page on Tuesday, July 9.
Evacuation orders have been issued for Cedar Creek, Upper Canyon, Brady Canyon, areas along the Rio Ruidoso, and at Paradise Canyon and Hull, according to the Village of Ruidoso. Cherokee Mobile Village has also been ordered to evacuate.
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood emergency for the Ruidoso area until 4 p.m. Tuesday, the Village said.
“Please do not try to protect your property or gather your belongings. Get out and move to higher ground IMMEDIATELY!,” the Village said in its post.
An evacuation shelter has been established at the White Mountain Relief Center at 687 Hull Road (White Mountain Sports Complex).
The Ruidoso and Mescalero Apache areas were hit by two major wildfires that burned more than 25,000 acres last month and damaged or destroyed more than 1,000 buildings, the entire Village of Ruidoso and other areas to evacuate.
Ruidoso was also hit by two days of flash flooding on June 29-20 once the fires got under control.
