Posted on July 10, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Fort Bliss and the 1st Armored Division will be getting a new commanding general this week.

The installation will have a change of command ceremony at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 11 at the 1st Armored Division Parade Field, 11685 Sergeant Major Blvd.

Maj. Gen. James Isenhower will be relinquishing command after leading Fort Bliss and the 1st Armored Division since July 2022. The Army typically changes most command and leadership posts about every two years.

The National Training Center, located in California’s Mojave Desert, is one of the Army’s premier training facilities and is used to get brigade combat teams ready for future missions, including deployments overseas.

Isenhower’s next assignment will be as assistant deputy chief of staff for operations, plans and training for the U.S. Army in Washington, D.C.

Fort Bliss issued the following statement about Isenhower’s tenure leading the installation and America’s Tank Division:

“During his tenure, he ensured that Fort Bliss returned to full operational capacity and that the close relationships it has with the City of El Paso and surrounding communities were re-established following the COVID-19 pandemic. This included participating in city events, holding Army events in El Paso, and inviting the community to participate in activities at Fort Bliss.”
