EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) announced they will conduct at least one sobriety checkpoint within city limits before the end of July.
LCPD said sobriety checkpoints, along with saturation patrols, are intended to reduce and eliminate the number of motorists who drive while “intoxicated or impaired.”
“Las Cruces Police encourage those who plan on consuming alcoholic beverages to utilize a ride-share or designated driver – someone who will not be drinking alcoholic beverages – for their transportation needs,” read a news release sent by LCPD.
Officers are also on the lookout for the traffic safety violations such as drivers using cellphones, and those who fail to properly use seatbelts and child safety seats, according to LCPD.
