EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An adult son has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of his father at Red Sands on July 4, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office says that 21-year-old Jair Navarro was arrested on Friday, July 12 by the U.S. Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. Navarro is facing a murder charge in the death of his father, 39-year-old Arturo Navarro, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office says the elder Navarro died on July 7 after suffering a gunshot wound to the head.
Shortly before midnight on July 4, Texas Rescue Patrol and deputies from the Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a fight in progress with gunshots fired at Red Sands.
Arturo Navarro was found with a gunshot wound to his head and he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and determined that Jair Navarro was responsible for shooting his father.
Detectives obtained a criminal warrant for murder and the younger Navarro was found and apprehended along the 11600 block of Datsun Drive in El Paso County.
He has been booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a charge of murder and a $750,000 bond.
