KTSM News – Heat returns; triple digits by next week — Your 9-Day Forecast

Posted on July 22, 2024

Let’s start with some good news… rain! Yes, we began the morning with some much-needed rainfall. At the airport, we recorded an official 0.15 inches, bringing the total for the year to 2.85 inches. (Normal is 3.43 inches.) West of the Franklin Mountains recorded over an inch of rain in some places.

Now the bad news. We added to the “Misery Meter” on Saturday with a high of 102. Now, we have 30 days so far this year of 100 or above, 13 of which were 105 or hotter.

Knowing it would be muggy and hot by the afternoon, two industrious young ladies set up a lemonade and cookie stand. (No, there were no free samples. I’ll bring money next time.)

TONIGHT:  The skies will be partly cloudy with with a few isolated area showers.  Unfortunately, we will not see a repeat of the steady rain early this morning. Skies will turn partly cloudy to fair overnight, and the SE winds will range from 5-15 mph.  The low will be 65.

FORECAST:  Tuesday will be partly cloudy with only a slight chance of a few isolated area showers with the afternoon heating.  The high will climb to 93, and the east winds will range from 5-15 mph.  Humidity levels will drop a bit as well.  Wednesday will be partly cloudy and hotter with a high of 98.  We’ll have a chance of isolated late day t-storms popping up around the Borderland.  The SE wind will range from 5-15 mph.  Thursday will be partly cloudy and 98 with isolated late day t-storms. Friday will be partly cloudy and 97 with isolated late day t-storms.
