KTSM News – Ozone Alert continues; t-showers Saturday may help — Your 9-Day Forecast

Posted on July 25, 2024

More hazy skies for Friday! The Texas Department of Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued an Ozone Action Day for the El Paso Area from 6 AM to 9 PM Friday.

Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable for producing high levels of ozone pollution in the El Paso area. You can help prevent ozone Pollution by sharing a ride, walking, riding a bicycle, taking your lunch to work, avoiding drive through lanes, conserving energy and keeping your vehicle properly tuned. For more information on ozone:

The official high today is 99, and the record is 105 set in 1994. One of the reasons we are experiencing an ozone pollution haze is because of a lack of stronger winds and a lack of rainfall. Hopefully, we’ll get both on Saturday.

TONIGHT:  The skies will be partly cloudy early in the evening and turn clear overnight.  The SE winds will range from 5-10 mph, and the low will drop to 74.

FORECAST:  An Air Quality Alert is posted for Friday due to high concentrations of ozone, which is creating the haze.  Friday will be partly cloudy with a high of 100.  We’ll have a chance to see a few isolated, distant t-storms in the area by late Friday, but El Paso should stay quiet.  Saturday will be partly cloudy with scattered late day t-showers.  Some storms may become strong and produce brief, heavy rainfall.  Saturday’s high: 98. Sunday will be partly cloudy with isolated late day t-storms.  Sunday’s high: 101.  Monday will be partly cloudy with a few isolated area t-storms and a high of 103.  Extreme heat hits the Borderland starting Tuesday as a giant dome of high-pressure forms over the Rockies. Tuesday will be partly cloudy with a high of 105.  Wednesday will be partly cloudy with a high of 107.
