EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Socorro Independent School District (SISD) is welcoming students for the 2024-2025 school year with a new building and electric buses.
The first day of school for SISD is Monday, Aug. 5 for all 51 campuses, according to the district in a news release.
SISD is inviting students, faculty, staff and the community to a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Student Activities Complex II at 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 2.
The venue is will be open for district athletics games and events and features an athletic field, concession areas, locker rooms, offices and conference rooms for athletics and fine arts, according to SISD.
SISD is also introducing new electric school busses, to contribute a cleaner environment for the region, according to the district.
According to the district, SISD was only one of 13 Texas school districts to receive the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Clean School Bus Funding back in October 2022.
The district received $9.875 million to replace 25 school buses and build charging infrastructure that will serve roughly 1,500 students in the area, SISD said.
