EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — In the main event of King’s Promotions’ Ring Wars 12, El Paso’s Stephanie Han (9-0) collected a unanimous decision victory over Miranda Reyes (7-3-1) to win the WBA women’s lightweight Intercontinental Championship at the El Paso County Coliseum on Saturday night.
Judges scored the eight-round fight, 77-75, 78-74, 79-73, all in favor of Han, who earned the win in her first fight for a belt.
Han, who suffered a cut above the right eyebrow from an accidental headbutt in the first round, held off Reyes’ non-stop pressure the whole fight. Reyes gave Han her toughest fight of her professional boxing career yet.
“This was the first time I’ve ever been headbutted. I could feel the blood coming out like the first 15 seconds and I was like “s***.” Well, this is real,” Han said post-fight. “This was one tough fight. At this level, you have to push through. Every single round I had to dig deep. I was exhausted. But that’s what’s to be expected in a title fight. She was an elite boxer, so I’m glad I came out winning.”
Reyes’ last two fights prior to her contest against Han were against world champions.
With the win, Han improved to 9-0 in her pro boxing career and won the WBA women’s lightweight Intercontinental Championship belt.
