McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — Over half a million dollars worth of methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl was recently seized in a single action at a South Texas port of entry, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Tuesday.
The seizure occurred Saturday in Eagle Pass, Texas, at the Camino Real International Bridge, which is also known as Bridge II, CBP said.
The bridge is used for commercial and passenger vehicles and connects to Piedras Negras, Mexico. Officers say they seized the drugs after an older car driven by a 28-year-old permanent U.S. resident was sent for secondary inspection and examination.
Using non-intrusive inspection system evaluations and canine units, officers found 40 packages of what they believed to be drugs inside the vehicle. This included over 32 pounds of methamphetamine; nearly 3 pounds of heroin and six packages containing a total of 8.77 pounds of fentanyl.
The total drugs have an estimated street value of over $553,000.
The driver has been arrested, Laredo CBP Director of Field Operations Donald Kusser posted on X on Tuesday.
