KTSM News – EPPD inviting community to join Citizen Police Academy

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) is encouraging the community to enroll to its new semester of their Citizen Police Academy (CPA).

In partnership with the Texas Department of Public Safety, EPPD will be hosting free sessions of the CPA starting in September, according to the department.

The community education program begins on Tuesday, Sept. 3 and ends on Thursday, Sept. 26. The classes will be every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m., according to EPPD.

Applications for the CPA can be entered online at the El Paso Police Department’s website. Applications must be turned in by Friday, Aug. 16, according to EPPD.

All applicants must be at least 18-years-old and no longer in high school. There is no age limit.

CPA is a community policing program to help citizens learn about different functions with the EPPD and the Texas Department of Safety. Topics that will be covered during the program are the following:

Patrol

Crime scene investigations

Homicide investigations

Texas Rangers

Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) and more
