KTSM News – El Paso ISD to expand ‘Extended Day Learning’ program ahead of new school year

Posted on August 2, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) and YWCA El Paso Del Norte Region are ending their after-school program partnerships at some of the district’s campuses ahead of the new school year.

The YWCA issued a statement making the announcement:

“While our valuable partnership with the El Paso Independent School District has changed for some schools, we are incredibly proud of the time we have spent working together and look forward to continuing our collaboration,” the statement read.

These changes come as El Paso ISD is expanding their Extended Day Learning program to six more of its campuses.

The district launched a pilot of the program across four campuses last year, and their goal is to continue growing it beyond this year.

District officials highlighted some of the differences between their program and what the YWCA offered.

“The fees are comparable to the YWCA. The one difference is that we offer before school. So again, parents, of course, many of them work at 6 a.m. They could drop off their children, they [children] transition right to the day, we make sure that they have food in their stomach like we always do before and after school,” said EPISD’s Chief Organizational Transformation and Equity Officer Marivel Macias.

Before school services will be offered between 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. at a weekly rate of $29.

After school services will range from 3:25 p.m. to 6 p.m. for a weekly rate of $59, and for both services the district will charge a weekly rate of $88.

They district will also offer these services during intersession from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the weekly rate of $88, and during early release from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. There is a sibling discount of $5.

The ten schools that will offer these services are listed below:

Aoy Elementary

Cielo Vista Elementary

Whitaker Elementary

Zach White Elementary

Green Elementary

Guerrero Elementary

Kohlberg Elementary

Polk Elementary

Western Hills Elementary

Tom Lea Elementary
